Courses

As a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club, we can help you gain an internationally-recognised course in scuba diving. Below are some brief descriptions of the courses that we can teach you if you become a member of our club. You can find out more about BSAC’s diving courses, as well as BSAC’s skills development courses, on the BSAC website.

BSAC Ocean Diver

Newcomers to diving can sign up for the BSAC Ocean Diver course. This course is designed for beginners and provides the essential knowledge and skills needed to go diving in open water.

Ocean Diver trainees will receive instruction in diving theory and essential skills in the safety of a swimming pool or sheltered water site. When ready, trainees will be introduced to diving in open water. All training is carried out by qualified BSAC instructors.

A qualified BSAC Ocean Diver can dive to a maximum depth of 20m in conditions matching those encountered during training. In the company of a BSAC Dive Leader, they may expand their experience in conditions beyond those encountered during their training. All diving should occur under the supervision of a Dive Manager and should not exceed the limits of the Ocean Diver qualification.

BSAC Sports Diver

The BSAC Sports Diver course builds on the skills you gained in the Ocean Diver course and helps develop your confidence, skills and experience in the water to allow you to enjoy a wider range of diving sites and conditions.

Sports Divers are permitted to dive to a maximum depth of 35m and undertake decompression diving.

BSAC Dive Leader

BSAC Dive Leaders aren’t just skilled, experienced divers; they take an active role in club affairs, whether it’s planning and leading expeditions to sites or accompanying less experienced divers on their diving adventures. After a series of theory lessons in the classroom and practical lessons in open water, not to mention plenty of dives in tougher conditions, you will be recognised as a Dive Leader.

Dive Leaders can dive to a maximum depth of 50m, manage activities on diving trips and plan expeditions to sites that are known to their branch or club.
